Fry's Run Watershed Association August 9, 2011 Minutes Members present were Matt Powers, Jeff McGuire, Linda Heindel, and Polly Clark. The rescheduled meeting from 08/02/11 was held at the home of Linda Heindel since the township building was not available. Jim Wilson, Northampton County Soil Conservation District, sent an email dated 07/28/11 explaining his most recent contact with Mike Kauffman, Pa. Fish & Boat Commission, explaining that they cannot fund the riparian buffer zone along Fry's Run due to their limited funds but that they would be able to help with a "fish habitat/streambank stabilization" project by paying for the design, materials, and providing construction oversight, but that we would have to fund or find an excavator and operator. Jim will also speak to Gordon Heller, Northampton County Parks, to see if we can work with his shop to delineate a "no-mow" area in the park until we can find the resources to purchase containerized trees and shrubs to enhance the existing buffer. Bob Schmidt will be getting back to Alicia Trexler, Western Pa. Conservancy, to see whether they can fund the riparian buffer plan. FRWA members Bob Schmidt and Jeff McGuire did a mini "critter capture" at the Williams Township pavilion a few weeks ago as part of a day-long Recreation Program. Bob Schmidt brought water from Fry's Run in a tub for the kids to observe and check out. The rain barrel workshop, sponsored by the Williams Twsp. Garden Club, is scheduled for next Saturday, 08/13/11 from 9:00am to12 noon at Country Lawnscape on Morgan Hill Rd. The planned activity for FRWA, as part of the Watershed Coalition of the Lehigh Valley, will be held on Saturday, September 17, at 10:00am at Fry's Run Park. It will be another "critter capture," which will be done with buckets or shallow pans, so the kids don't have to wade into the stream due to the coliform concerns. Linda will contact Prof. Kuserk to borrow some magnifying equipment and tweezers for the project. We received a check for $50.00 from the Lehigh Valley Community Action Committee, which was probably in error. Linda will call Alan Jennings to see if it's a mistake. Matt will try to attend the Supervisors Meeting tomorrow to address the status of their decision re: William's Twsp. joining the Delaware River Wild and Scenic Program, which might also be able to fund some projects for FRWA, since there is no cost to the township in doing this. Due to work obligations, we may need to change the meeting dates for upcoming FRWA meetings, but we will continue to schedule them for the first Tuesday of the month. Next meeting is scheduled for 09/06/11 at 7:00pm. Submitted by, Polly Clark
